"Mercedes-Benz racing transporter (""The Blue Wonder"") with MB 300 SLR #658 – J.M. Fangio LEGRAND 1:87 plastic model set, very detailed design and printing, filigree rims, length: 79mm This spectacular van in a striking, futuristic design was built in 1955 at the request of MB racing director Alfred Neubauer, on the extended chassis of a Mercedes-Benz 300 S and with the engine of the 300 SL. For many years, the so-called ""Blue Wonder"" was the fastest truck in the world and was used exclusively to transport Mercedes-Benz racing cars. From 1956 onwards, the racing transporter served as an exhibition vehicle and eye-catcher in the USA until it was scrapped in the 60s. A perfect replica is now in the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart. The Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR with the starting number 658 was driven in the famous Mille Miglia in 1955 by Juan Manuel Fangio (ARG) – one of the most important Formula 1 drivers in history. Fangio started without a co-driver and left the starting ramp in Brescia at 6:58 a.m. – according to his starting number 658, which corresponded to the respective start time."
