Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR #722 Sterling Moss / Denis Jenkinson LEGRAND 1:87 plastic model, very detailed design and printing (with Union Jack flag and start number), filigree rims, length: 49mm The annual major event of the Mille Miglia had a particularly attractive field of participants in 1955. Mercedes-Benz had big plans and sent an armada of four 300 SLR racing cars, which were used for the first time. Well-known top drivers were to challenge the fiercest competitors such as Ferrari, Maserati and Aston Martin for victory. Half of Italy was on its feet and eagerly awaiting the national racing event. The cars started from the famous starting ramp in Brescia at minute intervals. The first of the Mercedes team left at 6:58 a.m. with the drawn start no. 658 (start number = start time) J.M. Fangio as a solo rider the start and finish of Brescia. The next SLR driver at 7:01 a.m. was Karl Kling with start no. 701 the 1600 km long route under the wheels. Afterwards, at 7:04 a.m., the driver team around Hans Herrmann with co-driver Hermann Eger with the start no. 704 from Brescia and gave the SLR its spurs. Last but not least, the young daredevil Stirling Moss and his co-driver Denis Jenkinson catapulted themselves into the race battle at 7:22 a.m. with the starting number 722. Due to his level-headed driving style and his outstanding skills behind the wheel, J.M. Fangio reaches the finish line in Brescia as the second winner behind the winner Stirling Moss (also in an SLR).
