The Bayrische Zugspitzbahn of the Bayrische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG is one of the oldest mountain railways in Germany, along with the Wendelsteinbahn. The route leads from Garmisch Partenkirchen directly to the Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany. The line begins with the valley railway between Garmisch Partenkirchen and Grainau, from where the steep line to the Zugspitze turns into a cogwheel railway.
