From a student pilot's point of view, the de Havilland Tiger Moth was a relatively stable and forgiving aircraft, with few handling shortcomings and generally tolerating the odd silly mistake by the novice pilot. The Tiger Moth quickly gained a reputation for being an easy aircraft to fly, but difficult to fly well. These characteristics seemed to make it the ideal aircraft to serve as basic training for a large number of pilots who would fly in combat during World War II.
