Layout Construction seminar

Topic: Castle ruin

September 3 - 5, 2021

Workshop run by: Klaus Zurawski

In this seminar you’ll be creating a diorama with a castle ruin. A romantic castle ruin – with lots of opportunity to play around with architectural design. Polystyrene panels with rough outlines of the individual layers are glued onto a base plate over three levels. Now you can get stuck in for yourself and finish off designing the architecture in whatever way you like.

Contents of the workshop:
- Designing a romantic castle ruin
- Layout of masonry, battlements, gates and window arches
- Creating differences in height
- Topography of the landscape

A 50 x 40 cm, roughly prefabricated diorama is available for each participant. The reason behind creating nature in this way is to demonstrate electrostatic grassing using the FALLER Gras-Fix.

The castle, with its fortified walls and battlements, was built on rocky ground, debris from fallen walls was incorporated, stone blocks slipped down the slope and even the paths within the fortified walls themselves did not quite survive the centuries.
Then there’s the fortified tower at the very top with window alcoves and fortifications and next to it the manor house, the great hall, with its Gothic windows, partially collapsed so that only fragmentary traces remain.

Access to the castle is via a wooden bridge that bridges a swampy area. Safety measures such as railings, wall plastering, stairs, etc. are taken to ensure the layout is accessible. The various areas are covered with grass, ivy has climbed the walls, bushes have sprung up around the place and trees have grown.

All of the materials are provided by FALLER. You can draw from an abundance of resources.

What do you need to bring? You’ll need to make sure to bring with you a desire to create something beautiful, a passion for experiencing a landscape and the courage and dedication to simply dive in and make a start! We help you along the way with valuable hints, advice, practical experience as well as a lot of tips including examples.
